I use photofiltre, it took me a little while to learn using it but after only 2 weeks or 3 I knew it very good, and I think my pics were gotten better, too (I don´t like my first ones so much)
For animated pics (as two of the icons I made) I use photo scape, but I couldn´t come out without photofiltre! Never ever!!!
